Carotid Artery Disease
Carotid artery disease occurs when the carotid arteries in the neck become clogged or constricted by plaque, limiting blood flow to the brain and increasing the risk of stroke. Three million Americans currently live with the physical and mental disabilities caused by stroke. A warning sign is a transient ischemic attack (TIA), or "mini-stroke." Depending on the extent of blockage, treatment may include lifestyle adjustments, medication, or an endovascular carotid procedure.
